I have searched, but I couldn't find anything. I apologize if this is a complete rookie question. We are migrating our phones from RingCentral to 3CX. (Doing a happy dance!) I want to make sure there is little to no disruptions to our customers as we start the porting process. I am happy to RTFM on this but not sure where to start. I am certain there is a migration best practices document somewhere and I just am not looking in the right place.

I apologize upfront if I don't know the correct terminology.

We have a simple set up — Two physical stores.
  1. Main Phone Number - DID
    1. IVR
      1. Store 1 - DID and Extension
      2. Store 2 - DID and Extension
      3. Dial by name
        1. Me - DID and Extension
        2. District Manager - DID and Extension
        3. Manager of store one - Extension only
        4. Manager of store two - - Extension only
I got DID from Flowroute and set up a trunk.

I imagine I would need to set up a trunk for how I want things to be once the porting is complete.

However, for now I thought I could just forward my RingCentral main number to my 3CX main line. Is it possible to forward and external DID directly to an extension? For example if someone called Store 1 through RingCentral, have that directly forwarded to my Store 1 Extension.

Presumably you are porting your existing DID(s) from ring central to your new trunk?

I did a similar thing, except my DIDs were attached to ISDN telephone lines not another VOIP provider. For several months, I was unconditionally forwarding all incoming calls on the ISDN lines over to the default DID assigned to my trunk. Once I was happy to port the "real" DIDs I submitted the request and added the DIDs in my new trunk. It all worked a treat...but I don't know if there are any gotchas to watch for when porting DIDs away from ring central.

This is possible - you just need to set up the relevant inbound rule. If the outgoing call from ring central has a unique caller ID then you could use that to route the call directly to your extn.

Edit to add: I am, of course, presuming that ring central allows you can unconditionally forward calls to an external number.

Hey Mark! Thanks for the response. We could set the caller ID to a unique value but then our CRM wouldn't pick up the inbound call.

Thinking this through a little more, I think the best thing to do is get additional temporary DID and create a temporary trunk with all the temp numbers.

Hi Dale,
If you want a DID to be forwarded to each extension for each store, this is possible with simple inbound rule for each DID.

Now in same time you need a main number if you want to forward calls as your call flow scheme you put in your first post.

Of course best plan is to prepare a trunk on new PBX with all settings done, like this you can test your call flow scenario with no stress, then when all is set and working fine , ask for porting and normally on porting day nothing is needed , just enjoy calls on new PBX.

Hi Dale,

Welcome to the forum. I would recommend as a starting point to follow the 3CX Academy which will give you all the fundamentals you need to set up your system quickly https://www.3cx.com/3cxacademy/

We also provide guides for all the phones and devices we support, which should help you setup fast even if you didn't have any previous experience https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/

Since you have a CRM, I would also recommend taking a look at our CRM integration tool or look for one of our existing guides for popular CRM systems.
