Migration to a new hosted server

Hey all,

I'm looking for a safe way to migrate to a new hosted AWS instance that I've set up in advance in attempt to minimize downtime... The instance is all setup and running - but I am unsure as to what steps I should take to do this with the least amount of trouble possible.

My thoughts were to take a backup of the existing production 3CX installation, and then try to restore that backup onto my new instance.

Is there a procedure somewhere that I should follow to get this done?
In addition, is there a better way to do what I am trying to do? I had to create another 3CX account in order to get another 'free' license key... but it occurred that there may be a better way to do this.

It's just backup, uninstall or decommission, install and restore. Doesn't matter what direction or platform you are moving from/to.

Not sure why you felt you had to create another 3CX account though.

I figured I could have a ready made 3CX VM that I could just pop my backup into and then decommission the old server.
This cannot be done?
Also what happens if I reuse the same license key on another install of 3CX?
I registered for another another to avoid any issues with my office's production PBX.

It can be done, just doesn't need to be. If you re-use the same license it will create an split in the timeline!

But in all seriousness you just take a backup and copy it off the box. Shutdown the old instance. Install the new instance and restore. If everything looks good, keep the old instance off. If it doesn't look good, shutdown the new instance and boot the old one back up. You just want to avoid having two instance of the same key running at the same time. Then they will fight for the FQDN, and if using SIP trunks, will register over each other, etc.
