Solved Migration to hosted

Toying with the idea to move my customers to 3CX's hosted.

Am I right in saying that paid 3CX can be hosted by 3CX at no additional cost?

Is this likely to change?

Does this set up still support STUN?

When I migrate, the SBCs point to FQDN so the only down side to expect in the DNS update or are there other things I should consider?

It is highly recommended to use SBC and not STUN, we do not support this on the hosted solution.
SBC is the simplest, secure and most stable way to have remote deskphones.
And yes you are right for the DNS but by the time you will do the migration FQDN will change ip address on the fly so if on the SBC you have as primary DNS 8.8.8.8 then it will update on the fly and you wont have to update any local DNS Servers..

Although STUN not support, it will still work? There may be rare occasions it has to be used, not they we have any set up this way, I just like the freedom of using it if needed.

I'll get these converted ASAP as we'll save a few thousand a year

3CX hosted instances are a great option for vanilla installs of 3CX. However, the use of any 3rd-party applications is not possible. So, if you need any custom enhancements, commercial add-on tools, or need access to the API, this will not be possible.

The whole idea behind hosting with 3CX is that you do not need to deal with many of the administrative hassles that come with maintaining the server yourself. But if, for example, you want to look at debug logs for your Call Flow Designer application, this will not be possible because you will not have direct access to the server disk.

@kieferschild you can simply setup one of your NFR keys on the cloud, test your scenarios and then if all is as you want then simply migrate your clients !!
We don’t forbidden STUN, it’s just more easy to use the feature rich SBC with encryption included by default instead of using STUN with no encryption and have to spend time on the remote firewall.. you will waste more time there instead on migrating PBXs..

Im being pedantic. but, this doesnt answer the question, it simply says not supported use SBC. It should say YES you can use STUN. BUT its not supported and should use SBC.

@nikosT_3cx So i've logged in to my partner portal, got one of my NFR keys which is currently running on our VPS and pressed convert to hosted and took a backup.

I dont understand why its asking me to create a new 3CX FQDN but i typed anything in there.

I get to step 5 and it now asks me to select a hosting provider and continues to tell me it couldnt connect to an API.

Do I still need to set up and account with provider if 3CX are hosting?

So you clicked 'Switch to Hosted' or 'Self-Host'? Switch to hosted uses 3CX hosting. Self Host prompt you for a hosting provider.

Yeah I've got "switch to hosted" and when I go through the wizard it asks me for a new FQDN and then asks which cloud provider I want to use and tells me to set up an account with them.

@kieferschild as we discussed on the private conversation we had, the issue with your case was that your license key is on V18 ( not stable ). Now 3cx Wizard installs only stable versions and not Alpha or Beta..
Our Dev Team is already working on this to add a new validation which will show that this is not allowed so in the near future you will see it

I've successfully moved my first live customer to 3CX hosted.

One thing I had issue with, the SBC said it had been offline for 3 days (didnt check before hand so cannot confirm this). I had the DNS set to a local server for some reason so had to go in and change this to Google and then reboot the SBC service to get it to go online. However, my SBC is at 16.0.390 and when I update it, it doesnt update. Can I force this update from SSH?

If you have SSH access to the Pi I would just uninstall/purge and then reinstall.

I just tried to remove the sbc and get the following

Segmentation fault
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/apt-listchanges --apt || test $? -lt 10 returned an error code (1)
E: Failure running script /usr/bin/apt-listchanges --apt || test $? -lt 10

If i try installing it it says failed... dont suppose you know how to clear the sbc apt?

update: took me some googling but managed to get the sbc sorted.

in hte meantime got a 2nd PBX on to hosted

BTW for anyone else, i'm having to reboot SBC service on the Pi for it to come online once switched to hosted... cba waiting to see if it would come back to life.

sudo apt remove 3cxsbc --purge

Now about the reboot of the SBC, actually you dont need to do that..
This actually cleared the cache of the DNS entries on the SBC, nothing else.
Next time setup 8.8.8.8 as the primary DNS on the name servers and thats it, it will update by itself the A Record

Aye yeah, I changed DNS to Google but I didnt want to just leave it and hope it came back to life so forced it.

PS - I ran that removal script and I got an error but that's sorted now

>> sure but also from command line you can clear the cache with :
sudo /etc/init.d/dns-clean restart
sudo /etc/init.d/networking force-reload

>> about the removal script, ensue that you are root or you have the correct rights.
