Solved Migration to on premises query

Hi there

Our 3CX system is currently hosted by a 3rd party company.

We are looking to bring this in house to be managed by ourselves instead in the future.

I've done quite a bit of reading and have arrived at the following questions:

Is the best way to ask the 3rd party to provide us with a backup of the current system and install our server from that (if we can get them to do so)? I gather that will preserve all the settings and groups etc.

If we do that will we need to set up a fresh new FQDN to go with our own new license if it turns out they own the license we are using and not us?

If a backup is not available do we just need to ask the 3rd party for the trunk numbers (we have 3 separate phone lines) I'm not sure if we have those details to hand here.

I will be asking my manager how much of these details he might have stored away somewhere in the meantime but thanks for any advice you can provide.

That is absolutely correct.

Yes, you can use a different License Key if you cannot use the current one. If they do own the license key you can even ask them to release it from the FQDN so that you can re-use the same FQDN with your own license key. That way you will not have to reprovision remote 3CX Endpoints but do remember to use the same HTTPS port too.

Also, remember to ask them to take a backup excluding the License Key information.

For the SIP Trunks you will need the full account details, Registrar, auth creds, etc.
