Hi,

I have a query regarding the default codec the Windows and mobile app use.

Here is the default order within each extension on the phone provisioning page

GSM-FR
G729
G711 U Law
G711 A Law
G722

Does it really use GSM-FR as the preferred codec? It seems strange that it would use such an old and low quality codec as the preferred one? We have had some customers complain about the call quality (when MS Teams works fine on the same PC) so have pushed GSM-FR to the bottom but unsure if it has made a difference.

TIA

Hi @PaulCarter,

The reason GSM-FR and G729 are at the top of the list is that both are more bandwidth efficient than G711 (PCMU / PCMA). Of course this has a knock-on effect on the quality of the audio. If bandwidth isn't a consideration for your clients, I'd suggest moving GSM-FR and G729 to the bottom of the list, or removing them entirely if you'd like, in the Extension Settings --> Phone Provisioning tab, after selecting the "3CX App" in the drop-down.

Also ensure that in Settings >> General the codec priority mimics what you're setting on the devices in Extension >> Phone Provisioning to reduce the amount of transcoding that occurs.
