Move 3CX Phone System from another Partner

Hey y'all,

I am looking to take over the hosting of a 3CX phone system from another 3CX partner.

I have looked through the documentation on moving from one server to another and conclude that I will need to do the following:

1. Ask the current partner to do a full backup of the phone system and send it to me.
2. Have them deactivate the license.
3. Install 3CX on a new server and restore backup.
4. Reactivate license.

My questions are:

1. What information do I need from the current hosting partner on server specs etc so that I know my Azure server will be up to it?
2. When I "reactivate" the license, will that be a seamless process or will I need to purchase my own license to apply?

As above you do not have to deactivate the license if you are using the same license and fqdn. After the backup switch off the old server.

Afterwards , You may unlink the partner, and relink it to you within the management screen.

You will have to reconfigure all the phones. Check the config sand adjust as required

If Customer has access to his pbx MC , you can do the job alone, Backup can be done, change ID partner, and New instance to reinstall also.

After that you just put you're Partner ID and you're fine

This depends if the phones are all remote to the 3CX as in this case they use the public FQDN which will be updated on reinstall and restore of the existing backup (including Key and FQDN).

So, with access to the 3CX MC I can do all of this myself and because the current and the new host machines are remote, the phones should connect to the new instance - after a reboot I presume.

Well after DNS propagates and then a reboot. Remember it's a 6 hr TTL for STD/PRO licenses

Yes, and if you set up the new system by restoring the 3CX backup the phones will also have the correct credentials so they can authenticate on the new machine without issue.

The reboot will ensure they resolve the new IP after the DNS propagates as mentioned above.
