finally deploying my key I got last year says

Unable to reach 3CX License Activation Server. Confirm that your Primary DNS Server is able to resolve activation.3cx.com

yet on the dashboard says expired? key was generated 1/18/17

so am I out of luck on this one?

Thanks leon

Can your 3CX server resolve activation.3cx.com? I usually suggest setting the Primary DNS of the server to 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS), restarting the services and trying again. Obviously make sure that your server can contact 8.8.8.8 and that there is nothing blocking your network from contacting it.

GM yes it does but it does not respond to pings. My guess is the key is over a year old and I need a new one; thanks leon

Send me the key in a PM and I'll check.

Hi Nick,

I am having a similar problem today. I have been through many other forum posts but none are resolving my issue.

I have purchased maintenance which should have been active from 14th September but I get the same error message "Unable to reach 3CX License Activation Server. Confirm that your Primary DNS Server is able to resolve activation.3cx.com"

I am using Debian install with 3CX on the latest edition. I only use Google DNS as its nameserver and I have rebooted the system at least once to make sure.

/etc/interfaces = dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8

root@3cx-reliance:~# nslookup activation.3cx.com
Server: 8.8.8.8
Address: 8.8.8.8#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: activation.3cx.com
Address: 151.80.125.88

When I run tcpdump -nn port 53 and click "Refresh License Key Information" no data is output.

The pbx can ping and nslookup activation.3cx.com, it also uses/resolves smtp-proxy.3cx.net (which I can see when running tcpdump) but it will not refresh my license key information :-(

I am worried what will happen to the client's PBX as this could have serious knock-on effects.

You are monitoring port 53 which is for DNS requests. Your server may have already resolved activation.3cx.com and doesn't need to do it again.

What you could try though is to run: tcpdump -n host 151.80.125.88
Then hit the refresh Registration.

Things that could affect this is Deep Inspection features on firewalls which you should disable for activation.3cx.com. Also make sure you are on the latest 3CX version if possible.

Thank you for this. I ran the tcpdump and unfortunately nothing was captured.

The customer is using a Draytek 2860 with no active Firewall rules except "Enable Strict Security Firewall" which is left on by default. Have you had poor experience with this setting?

I've since added a LAN -> WAN rule which always passes packets from LAN (any) to WAN IP 151.80.125.88. This hasn't helped either - do I need to restart any services first?

Could you send me the License Key in a PM to check?
