Has anyone successfully installed Desktop app on a terminal server in a domain environment?

I installed through per posted instructions:

1. Connect to the server with a user with admin rights.
2. Open “Control Panel > Programs > Install Application on Remote Desktop…”
3. In the pop-up message click “Yes”
4. Browse to the installation file, click “Next” and when installation is complete click “Finish”

Users will connect as normal users on terminal server, open the WebClient and provision the Desktop App with their account. No installation is required by the users.

User's directory should be :
%appdata%\3CXDesktopApp\

Installation directory should be:
C:\Program Files\3CXDesktopApp

What I'm experiencing is, it runs fine in an account signed on as a local computer user, but any domain user, even domain admins, I just get the desktop app white screen, desktop app processes keep suspending. In the desktop app log:

[2021-12-22 05:06:04.689] [error] (unhandled-rejection-error-hook) {
message: "Error: ERR_FAILED (-2) loading 'voipc://electron/index.html'\n" +
' at rejectAndCleanup (electron/js2c/browser_init.js:213:985)\n' +
' at Object.stopLoadingListener (electron/js2c/browser_init.js:213:1360)\n' +
' at Object.emit (events.js:327:22)',
type: 'generic'

3CX support says permission issue, which I don't necessarily disagree with, but I cannot find what the issue is.

Domain users have full control on their user directories. I've tried adding additional permissions to both :

c:\Users\%appdata%\3CXDesktopApp\
C:\Program Files\3CXDesktopApp

I'm at a loss.

I've tried on two different terminal servers to rule out issue with specific server.

From our side, we have found that the mentioned terminal server is installed with a citrix VDi infrastructure which has not been tested and therefore could not advise further. Testing with a terminal server RDS 2019 on a domain works perfectly with no other VDI or similar software installed.

Thanks Charles. I will test with a straight RDP server as soon as I can get one installed.

Just an update, I did not test with another server.

@Charles_3CX is correct this was a Citrix/VDI issue.

I did find a Citrix support article, after searching for things like Electron, Citrix issues, that pointed me to an article about another Electron built program that said:

"There have been some reports of problems with Citrix hooks and the WebView2 process which prevents it from starting. The workaround is to disable hooks for that process as described in Citrix CTX107825."

I followed the suggestion for my version of Citrix, and this did solve the issue of the DesktopApp starting for non local computer account users (RDP users). Don't know all the ramifications of this change, but can say that DesktopApp will start now. If anyone else decides to try this, pay attention to what the document says about 14 character limit on the process name in the string value. It will let you put anything, but it will only work if the string is 14 characters or less, so the process "3CXDesktopApp.exe" has to be put in as "3CXDesktopapp."

Hopefully helpful to someone. Again I make no claims other than this allowed domain users RDP to Citrix server be able to start the 3CX Desktop App and provision it.

Excellent troubleshooting and thanks for posting the fix!
