We had 3CX system installed by an external phone consultant and it never seems to work properly. I keep having problems hearing the outgoing dial tone. I have both the web client and a desktop version and am totally confused by the system. Can someone help me fix this??

The Dial tone on your phone is just a sound file from the phone, the webclient produces no tone. if your system is working dial the number to call and call it, you should here the ringing tone if not something is not working.

A dial tone is sent by the PBX or Exchange to the receiver to acknowledge the phone is off the hook. Since you are not using a phone and you're using a softphone, it does not do this in the same way your mobile doesnt do it.

Hi James,

You might have to get a bit more specific

- what are you calling from? (deskphone, windows client, android / iOS client, webclient, chrome extension)

- do you mean the progress tone a.k.a the sound you hear after a number has been dialled?

- does this happen when calling internal extension or do they sound fine?

- if this happens only with external calls, it may have to do with your lines provider rather than the pbx
