Hi!

I am trying to get voicemail notification set up, but can't get 3CX to send a mail when a new voicemail is present. All mail server settings are okay, since sending an email when creating a new extention works fine.

My environment:
- Windows 2003 server with latest patches/SP's
- 3CX version 8.0.10116.583 (latest version)
- no license aquired, since I'm running this for testing on a small system right now
- mail server is the smtp server for my cable internet company (smtp.ziggo.nl), no authenticatiopn neccesary

Mails get sent through the smtp server just fine:
- when creating a new extention
- with Thunderbird
- even with telnet to port 25 and manually typing SMTP commands

The only time no mails are sent is when a voicemail is recorded by 3CX. The voicemail messages are left in the mailbox, even when set to mail and delete.

What is going wrong here?

You can check the VoiceBox manager log in the Logs folder to see what's going on.

I tried this yesterday and E-Mails with the attachements worked fine. It's propably something with your Mail Server, some just ban you and others just block the attachements.

As i said the log will provide more info.

I tried to find the Logs folder in the 3CX installation folder (C:\Program Files\3CX PhoneSystem) but there is no Logs folder there. The 3CX Wiki didn't have anything about the location either.

Just tried setting the Log Level to Verbose, to see if there are more log details then. But no info on sending emails:

Changing the loglevel needed a restart of 3CX, which seemed to be enough to get voicemail notification working again. :)

no such luck for me, trace log indicates success, but no email :(

Code:
18:39:07.952|Inf(03)| Creating email notification for 210

18:39:23.537|Inf(03)| Save DNInfo ext=210 Tot=3 New=2

restarted services a few times, new extensions DO receive emails though.....

EDIT - actual had a typo in the expected email address' domain - resolved now

I seem to have the same problem -

some notes:
- verbose logging level
- voicemail via email set to yes for the proper extensions
- working SMTP server in use by other (non-3cx) utilities
- zero mention of "Creating email notification" in logs
- voicemail classified as "new" when i login to Welcome to the 'MyPhone' User portal
- any thoughts of where I'm going wrong?

oops. a thousand apologies. I checked the wrong logs.
To clarify for everyone, the 3CxVoiceBoxManager.log is what you're looking for ... located in the log folder.
an easy way to get to it is to use the 3cx help menu to generate support files.

some info on these logs

SMTP server #1
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 69.17.117.59:25

but i changed mail servers b/c it looks like my ISP (Comcast) is blocking port 25

SMTP server #2 (using gmail)
Code:
(System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 74.125.95.109:587)

and with port 465, a different error:
System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: The operation has timed out.
   at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message)
   at GenericUtilsNet.Mail.Send()
   at VoiceMailScanner.EmailNotif.SendMail()
   at VoiceMailScanner.BoxesMonitor.ProcessList(List`1 list)

any thoughts?

I had simialr issues.. I was directing SMTP to our exchange server and I was trying to send to an external address. This is relaying which is disabled on our exchange... Maybe Obvious but thought I'd share. Also, make sure authentication is setup within General, Mail server.

Does this feature work on the "Free" version?

Ok...

it works! (voicemail is enabled in the free version)
how? Hard server restart. (ugh)
no matter how many times i soft-restarted 3cx in the admin control panel last night it didn't solve the problem.

another issue i was troubleshooting caused the restart today and voila... 5 emails in my inbox with vmail attachment.

resolution steps were relatively simple

1. Get log files (Help ... Create Support Info)
2. Use VoiceBox log to see what the error is

If 3cx is trying to send the email via the account and failing
3. troubleshoot the port that email *should* be sending out on via telnet
4. troubleshoot the mail account with another server
5. soft restart 3cx
6. hard restart 3cx

I had this same problem and it took several days before anyone in the company noticed that no voicemails were being received by email attachment. I could find no trace of any file called 3CxVoiceBoxManager.log (maybe that is relevant only to an earlier version of 3CX?).

Anyway the problem turned out to be that the "3CX PhoneSystem Call History" service had stopped/crashed. It seems that this service needs to be running in order for voicemails to be delivered by email. I am now using PRTG to constantly check that the service is running, and if it isn't, PRTG will automatically restart it.

I am using 3CX v10.0.19547.1805 SP.1.1 running on Hyper-V inside Windows Server 2008 R2, and our mail server is Exchange 2003.

The issue could be your SMTP server is requiring secured ports.

Regards

I am having a similar problem, no e-mail notifications.

Using Wireshark to check what's happening on the network shows that 3CX is Authenticated by the mail server, both the MAIL FROM & RCPT TO are OK'd by the mail server but then 3CX issues an RSET, thus aborting the e-mail.

Any ideas?
