We are trying to set up our outbound caller ID and can't get it to reliably display the caller ID we want. Most of the time it will just display the number we have set as our outbound caller ID on our outbound rules and then probably one in 10 calls it will display what we have it set to in the outbound parameters of our sip trunk. Is there a setting we are missing that can make this display more reliability or is it just carrier based? our provider is Flowroute if that helps.

edit:
Attached a screenshot we are using a custom field for from:display name as our outbound CallerID

Hello,
You try to set up your outbound caller ID in the extension?
If this is the case the outbound caller ID will be overwrited by the one in the outboun rule.
You have to decide witch one you want to present (extension or outbound rule).
Your trunk is supported by 3cx so please put back the settings by default in the outbound parameters please.

Hey Jean,

Thank you for your response. I dont think I was clear in my initial post as to what we are trying to do. We want to be able to dial cellphones and have our caller id show the business name and then our main number. With our current set up it does this intermittently and the rest of the time it just shows the main number in the outbound rule.

We had to start looking into this because we had an issue with the way the current outbound parameters were set where when someone called outbound from a phone with an extension ID of Admin the recipient would just see admin and our number on their phones and ignore the call.

I understand now, unfortunately you will have to go to your trunk provider, modified templates are not supported by 3cx.

my modified templated do you mean the outbound parameters.

ok will do. Do you know why the behavior is consistent and sometimes will send the Extension ID and other times just our outbound number?

We don't support and we don't test this parameters, so i can't give you any hint for this case.

ok do you know we reliably get the company name to show up when calling cellphones outside of using parameters? None of the documentation I have found for 3cx points to a solution for this.

In fact we do not offer this feature.

Hello,

Maybe I did not understand correctly, but as a clarification, most cellphone carriers (at least in North America) will not send the information “From: Display Name” they received.

As an example, a call from my extension to my cellphone will display our company Caller ID as the caller' name and number.
A name will only be shown if I have that phone number associated to a contact in my cell.

If you want a particular phone number to show consistently, like your "main" business number, you may want to consider setting up a second outbound rule, that has that number, in the rule.

Access to this rule could be with a different prefix. As mentioned, if you have a caller ID number set in the outbound rule, that will over-ride a number set against an extension. Of course, your provider has the final say on what number is ultimately sent, so, it could be different from what 3CX is sending out, but, you can confirm that in the Activity Log.

As mentioned, many mobile providers do not pass on a caller name, only the number.
