We have a BUNCH of Polycom legacy VVX phones (410, 310 411) and SoundStation phones. Polycom has a built-in feature for multicast paging using special sub-groups. For us this works great. Unfortunately, this feature is not supported in the template so we must set up the group paging on each phone separately.

Let me explain. If all the phones are on the same VOIP internal VLAN (on the same network) then we can configured all the phones to use the same UDP Multicast IP address AND port. This is done by logging into each phones web-page and manually configuring. Then you can define names for numbered "Groups" (up to 25). Each phone can then subscribe (or not) to each group for the ability to see and page the group and to hear the group's page or not.

My question is about any other phones or paging devices supporting the "Group" feature that Polycom uses. Is this feature to either subscribe or not to pages (using a "Group number" in the packet header) proprietary to Polycom only? (perhaps the Algo 8301 supports this) If I add a snom pa1 to the same network and configure the same IP and port, will it ignore the group header and play ALL pages?

I really like the Group paging feature. The user just selects page and a list of available groups comes up. Automatically goes to the correct phones.

I realize that this local broadcast paging has nothing to do with 3CX. If I get a snom PA1, however, it would be added as an extension to 3CX. I just want to know if anybody else has run into the Polycom group thing or not and how best to incorporate it.

It would be nice if the Polycom Group paging were implemented in an SBC (or some other software that could translate between Polycom and other paging systems that use multiple port numbers.)

You would have to use (officially unsupported) custom templates to configure and enable this. That means on Prem or private hosting. If you look at the template it might not be a difficult change.
