Solved Problem with Gigaset N870 handsets not registering

I have set up an N870IP DECT base station on a 3CX SBC as discussed in another thread, but have a problem that it does not seem to be receiving provisioning details for one of two handsets I have registered to the base. If I autprovision it, the 3CX ID password, user etc are all correctly loaded for one of the two handsets but not the other, so it cannot register with 3CX.

If I manually inser the details directly using the N870IP web interface the second handset registers immediately, but as soon as the N870IP is reprovisioned from 3CX the details for that extension are blanked and the handset loses its registration.

I have looked exhaustively through the phone settings in the 3CX console, and they seem completely identical apart from registration id, password and user details, as they should be, since I tried recreating the second extension by using the copy extension function on the first. Both extensions are listed on the Advanced>DECT/FXS extensions tab.

I have another N870IP set up on the same 3CX installation without any problems at all, so this has me mystified.

Does anyone have suggestions for what might be causing this issue?

Hi Alex,

Let's test something:

1. Go to the Users section, create two fresh extensions, just give them each a First Name and leave the rest default

2. Go to the DECT / FXS section, find the entry for the N870 in question (based on MAC) and delete it entirely.

3. While there, create a new entry for thee N870, add the correct MAC, and on the 2nd tab select those two new extensions we just made and press OK to save.

4. Factory reset and reprovision the N870 as per the guide, and reboot it once more just to make sure

5. You can now login to to the N870 again, and register your handsets https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/gigaset-n670-n870/#h.qjk51y62i09l

We should now see them both registered in the "Phones" page.

Don't forget to put the device in All-in-one mode as per the guide, that's the only mode we support.

Many thanks for that. Doing things over again following that sequence does seem to have worked, it loaded the handset ids and passwords okay in the N870, and the details survive a reprovisioning okay now. So thanks for that.

By all-in-one mode, I presume you mean Integrator-Manager-Base mode. Yes, that is what I had been using. I do plan to add another as a base-only expansion of coverage at the SBC site. I hope that is okay as I have done similar at the main PBX site with no problem.

One thing that has occurred by me strictly following the procedure you suggested is that the base has reverted to a DHCP address rather than a fixed one as I would prefer. I'm trusting that since the 3CX provisioning and registering is MAC-based, there should be no problem if I set the N870 for a fixed IP address (in the same subnet).

Of course should be fine as we only control the main base, so the other ones can just be paired to the main one and act as extenders.

Yep, no problem at all. The system will accept the N870 from any IP in the local subnet so adding a static IP in the correct range should be perfectly fine. If you use a different IP than the current one, just restart the device after changing it to make sure everything lines up nicely.


Tip: if your DHCP server has IP reservation features, you can keep your devices in DHCP mode, and assign your static IPs from the DHCP management end.
