Proper procedure for moving extensions to another phone

Hi:

We have about thirty Yealink T46S phones running on our 3CX phone system (V. 15.5.15502)
We have what we think is an issue with one of the phones, and we would like to retire it and move the extension information registered on that phone to a new one.
I have read this link I found: https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/moving-phone-to-new-extension.40049/ and I am gleaning that by removing the Mac Address and ensuring that the model field has no entry, I can remove the suspect phone and factory reset the one we want to apply the extension settings to. Is this the best way to achieve this? We have Voicemails and greetings/away options we do not want to have to recreate. Any advice and/or links to FAQ's that address this will be welcomed.

As long as you do not delete the extension - should be ok.
Go into the extension, delete the phone under provisioning and add the new one with the new mac address.

After removing the phone under the provisioning tab for the existing extension

You could always factory default the phone, by pressing the OK button until see the option to factory default it. This way it will appear in 3CX phone list and you assign it to the new extension

Yes - but we do not want to create a "new" extension - we want to apply an existing extension and it's configuration/messages/greeting settings to a new phone after retiring the old one...

Simply remove the current phone from the extension and add the new one.

Messages, greetings and such are all controlled by dial codes on the PBX (or via Webclient). If using a supported phone, the new phone will work just like the old one. To copy configuration, simply take a screenshot before deleting the old one and redo that config on the new phone. If same model, you can always just change the MAC directly.
