Hi All,

I have a slightly dumb question. How many call records (call log/history) would be good to keep for system or database size and health?

I ask so that we don't run into issues the more we install 3CX. I am used to cleaning records off of Trivium Call Analyst for legacy PBX systems to keep the MS SQL database healthy and process reports quickly.

One of our customers that we will install shortly likes to keep a year to year and a half of records but that could be over 1 million calls externally. I am not sure of the total call volume including internal calls.

Hi @jcostlow

Provided that the 3CX Instance in question is compliant with our Hardware Requirements and it has been deployed with our guidelines in mind, you should not have any issues with the number of call logs you mention. This of course does not mean that the system will be unaffected as generating Call Reports and creating Backups for instance may take longer depending on the situation.

If you want to keep several years of history, and you are concerned about the issues ChrisC_3CX mentioned, you can take a look at our 3CX Exporter tool that replicates ALL the 3CX data (including CDR records) to a separate SQL / MySQL database. Then you can run custom reports without impacting 3CX performance, and you can truncate the history in 3CX without losing any history.

@ChrisC_3CX Thanks for the information. We have only sold in the in house systems with using the hardware requirements. Our smaller installs have been hosted by 3CX where keeping a ton of call history won't be needed.

@VoIPTools That is good to know. This customer is one I discussed selling a subscription for the suite back in September via email with you and Adam. Once we get the OK to install I will reach out to get that going.

@jcostlow Glad to hear, in that case you should not have any issues.
