Hello,

Could you please confirm whether it is possible to download a backup of a 3CX system (version 20) without an active license? If it is not permitted, could you advise on the official options for exporting or retrieving backups (for example, via the Management Console, server access, trial/licensing routes, or support assistance)? I want to ensure we follow the correct, licensed procedure to recover our configuration and recordings.

Thank you for your help.

There is no official way to get an backup without fqdn and licence. You can adjust your xml file from the backup to change licence or fqdn, but its not supported.

Hello,

My client’s 3CX license recently expired and was removed. I plan to replace it with a new license and need to migrate the system to a new appliance. I tried to download a backup without the FQDN so I could install it on the new device, but the restore was rejected. I must not lose the client’s FQDN—is there a supported way to export or restore the backup while preserving the existing FQDN, or any recommended steps to complete this migration without service interruption?

Thank you for your help.

Download your backup, adjust the licence key and restore it to the new install. check before the fqdn isnt bind to the old licencekey. There is no way to do this without interruption.

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

Could you please explain how to do this step-by-step?
Specifically, I would like guidance on:

  1. How and where to adjust the license key
  2. How to restore the backup on a new installation
  3. How to check if the FQDN is still linked to the old license
  4. Any precautions to avoid losing the FQDN during the process
Since there will be downtime, I want to ensure everything is done correctly and efficiently.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,

1. you need to open the xml file in your backup and adjust the part with the licencekey
2. during installation there will be a part to restore an backup
3. in the customer portal
4. if the fqdn isnt bound to the old key, there is just a little chance that someone else is picking up the fqdn, but thats the only way you should loose the fqdn. what domain is your fqdn? 3cx.com or something else?
