Questions from a confused newboy

I could open the ports on my router yes, that was the confusing part.
I have come to the decision that due to the ISP being a normal phone provider, the router they supplied was crippled.

This router that I am using is fine, all I did was enable uPnP and the whole thing is working brilliantly!
