Looking to install SBC. Currently got phones configured to stun.

If I install SBC and configure the SBC and 3CX, will all the phones stop working or will they continue working until I reconfigured them to use the SBC?

Reason for asking is that I want to test a couple of phones first to make sure everything is working before moving everyone to SBC.

Hi Stephan,

The STUN phones can operate independently of the SBC so they will continue to work as before.

Factory reset one phone, delete it from the extension, then go to your phones section and assign it from there (you will notice the IP column will say via SBC).

Note: the phone may ask for login credentials when you factory reset, so skip the login page before you assign it.

Thanks, will try it now :)

Let us know how it goes, and if you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

Another question.

If I would configure a phone via SBC and I would take the phone home and plug it into my router, Would it still work or would I have to reconfigure it?

No it would no longer work, because now the phone will look for the SBC and not find it.

A STUN phone should not have problem though since it registers directly to the PBX via internet, but the trade off is that it will be less reliable than an SBC phone unless you take care of port forwarding.

If I configured a phone to use SBC and then want to take it home, is it a matter of simply changing the provisioning method to stun or would I have to completely reconfigure it and set provisioning url etc?

Both: You would have to change the phone provisioning method in your management console back to STUN, and then reset and re-provision the phone by entering your credentials as soon as it boots up

Ok thanks.

Installed the SBC, factory reset a test phone and managed to get it to work without problems.
