Solved Raspberry Pi 4 as SBC - install a graphical desktop or not ?

Hi All,

Do you typically install a graphical desktop on Pi units as SBC's ? or just setup SSH for remote access to them ?

I was thinking that the graphical interface with some remote access via VNC might be useful for diagnostics sometimes, being able to remote onto the pi and run a web browser for example to browse to handsets on site ?

Is that something that you guys setup as a standard "good practice" or would this be detrimental to the pi's performance as an SBC ?

the 3CX ISO does not install the graphical UI. Doing so would probably put a little bit of overhead on the SBC too. I know there's someone on here that resells an SBC monitoring tool. Just enable SSH and if you can, set up port forwarding with restrictive IP.

As per our instructions, we recommend the lite edition of the OS so that absolutely all resources remain available to the SBC. https://www.3cx.com/docs/installing-pbx-raspberry-pi/

Installing the desktop (or full-fat OS) goes against the tested and supported method of running your Pi SBC, and it also means that the installation sizing recommendations are no longer valid since there are more processes taking up resources

Thanks, was just a thought to add additionally utility when deploying SBC on a site - we'll stick to the agreed process
