Solved Raspberry Pi 4 Setup

Hello

I am trying to set up a Rasp Pi4 as an SBC for a customer of mine. I have gotten to the point of configuring the DHCP settings with the static IP.
Whenever I attempt to download the 3cx zip file next, I get an error message "unable to resolve host address". I am currently trying to configure this from my office, but set the static IP to match the current one they have for the SBC on site (faulty equipment, setting up replacement). Do I need to attempt to download the zip file when I am on their local network?

Would I be able to swap the old SD card out of the old Rasp Pi into the new Pi, and avoid this whole thing altogether?

(I am still fairly new to the field, and trying to learn as fast as possible haha)

Sounds like you have DNS or Gateway configured incorrectly if it can't download the file.

Moving the SD card from one device to another will sometimes work for a bit and then fail unexpectedly. it is not recommended.

Yes I am currently trying to download the 3CX zip file in step 5. I have the IP on it currently configured to the client's IP. Do I need to be there locally to continue setting up the SBC?

When you say configured on the client IP, does PI have access to the internet - have you duplicated the client network as your location.

No you do not have to be client site, if you replicate the clients network

Another option, setup the pi with a dhcp network address, after configuring the unit change the ip to fixed

What I normally do is set the Pi up, leaving it on DHCP, get the 3CX SBC set up and then change it to static IP.

Like I said, I am still new to all this, and the person who was supposed to help train me, didn't. How would I go about replicating the client's network?

Format the SD card for your Pi and boot it up ignoring step 4 for now.

Then follow these instructions to set up the SBC

Once your SBC is online then go back to first link and do step 4 making sure you use the exact same network settings as current SBC.

Quick tip. Once you've written the image to the SD card, create a new file in the drive called ssh and this will enable SSH on the Pi.

I tried this way and I was able to get the zip downloaded! Thank you!

Basically when you set a static IP, your Pi lost internet access and could not download anything.


Using DHCP to setup everything, and switching to static later is the way to go here.

If your customer has DHCP reservation, you can even leave the Pi like this, and just change its IP to the old one from the DHCP Server.
