Receive Fax or Voice Automatically

Is it possible to configure extensions with DID to receive fax automatically or ring the extension if it a voice call?

No.

If you absolutely had to have this feature automatically you could try this (never done it and just thought about it but should work).

• Route the DID to an ATA.
• Connect a fax machine that has that capability to the ATA.
• Connect the phone port of the fax machine (where it will pass voice calls) to another ATA
• Route that ATA to your extension

If you dont' mind some minor user intervention you could route the DID to an IVR with something like press '1' for voice and '2' for fax and then route accordingly.

Or just spend the extra $1 or 2/month for a second DID. Voice and fax on the same line made sense with analog lines at $30-80/month per line but when you can add a 2nd DID for cheap it doesn't make sense anymore.

I just want the convenience of having a single number that can do both.
I found that some internet phone services are able to receive both voice and fax.
Wanted to know if it can be done on 3CX as well

And that's the key point right there. 3CX is a PBX, not internet phone service.

If you still used a PSTN line, then you could use something like this..

Everyone used to offer them. They are rather rare now. Unfortunately, with VoIP, you have a lot of other considerations, and FAX usage over VoIP gets rather finicky, let alone trying to share the same line with voice calls. For any sort of reliability, it's best to keep them separate.
