Record meetings (not web meetings)

Since we have this wonderful system that records and we backup these recordings.
Is there a way to record a room / normal meeting?

I was thinking along the lines of dialling a fake extension that would auto answer (with phone on speaker phone).
The recording would then be in the user's recording and they can access it via MyPhone or ask IT for it.

It will work great since the recording would be accessible only to the recording party.
Not a security risk since you could do this anyway by dialling your cell and record the meeting the same way. We just don't want to pay for an hour long call to a cell just to record a meeting.

Conceivably, you could have a conference style phone in the room where the meeting is being held that could be used to dial out to another extension that is set to auto-answer and to record all calls whereupon the meeting could be recorded.

Having said that however, keep in mind that the phone that was used to make the connection by auto-answering is now a part of the meeting and the meeting may be spilling out onto its speaker-phone for others to possibly hear. This is also going to use up a call from your license and it will eat some amount of space on the system for storage.

The owner of the recording will be the auto-answer extension.

Is there any type of destination that would record without a handset on the other end?

:idea: As I was typing that I thought of a Myphone loaded on the server [no speaker or mic] (usually use to test dialling rules with). will test that.

License is not a problem, especially considering the cost & security of alternative solutions.
All calls are being recorded, so a meeting here and there wont be a big deal.

There is nothing that I can think of off the top of my head.

The issue is that no system extensions allow for recording and only calls from/to an extension are the only recording capable extensions. If there is no extension/handset/device, then the rules come into play for not registered.

Managed to do it

Created an extension (900) and named it "Recording".
Installed 3CXPhone on server (no mic or speakers connected) and set Ext 900 up on it.
Set 3CXPhone to Auto Answer - Click on the DND button and Select Auto Answer, AA should appear.

Now when a meeting needs to be recorded they just dial ext 900 from the boardroom phone and it will show "Recording" as the dialled extension and that it is recording.

Used a SNOM MeetingPoint in the boardroom and it works great all around a medium sized (10 person) boardroom table.

Only time this will be a problem is if they forget to end the call after the meeting - resulting in long recording of silence.

Glad you got it working. The only thing you may need to watch is the DND and AA. The settings seem to run against one another as on the one hand, if DND is set then it would normally send a busy here (486) which would seemingly run counter to AA - a Do Not Disturb....but Auto Answer.

Not sure if one has a precedence over the other,, but test it thoroughly so you know the settings that will allow for a reliable recording methodology.
