Hi Guys,

I've started a restore from a backup thats about 2GB.

Can you tell me how long this is expected to take?

can you also tell me how the backup works. Does it upload to the 3CX server and restore locally?

I've lost the config page (port 5015) where it was telling me it was restoring. I attempted to restore again but it says theres an operation in progress. Is there any way to see this or do I just wait?

The most time-consuming part of restoring a backup is restoring the Call History, so if the biggest part of the 2GB is call history and not e.g. Recordings and Vmail files, it could take 15-20 minutes, depending on the hardware you are running of course. It also depends if the backup is from an older version of 3CX, in which case before the call history is restored, it must first be converted, so that would add some extra time onto that.

By the time though you lost the tab, I am afraid you should start over. Before you do though, make sure you have the backup you are going to restore off the server, or on the server but in a neutral folder location.

What you must do to restart the process is:
  1. Stop all 3CX Services (Linux command: sudo 3CXStopServices)
  2. Restart them all (Linux command: sudo 3CXStartServices)
  3. Then reset the installation to start over (Linux command: sudo /usr/sbin/3CXWizard --clean)
Step #3 will purge all 3CX data currently on the server
Then you can start over again.

If you are more comfortable of course, you could simply uninstall 3CX, re-install it as an alaternate way of restarting the process.

Hi Nick,

thanks for the reply.

I had another customer with a 5GB backup (I included to back up everything).

I left it running the restore overnight and came to it the next day to find it was still apparently restoring.

I ran the sudo /usr/sbin/3CXWizard --clean command again and did the restore again to find it completed in about 30 mins or less (For both my 2GB restore and my 5GB).

Both PBX are up to date on the latest major releases and they're running in a hyperv with 2GB RAM and 1 CPU.

Do you know if the restore first uploads the backup ZIP to the machine or if it restores via my PC over the internet?

It first uploads the file via your browser to the 3CX Server, then the restore reads the local copy of the file to do the restore.
