replacing license keys

hi team, need some help here to replace the license key.
our system was previously setup on v16 with a Standard Annual license. it was setup to evaluate the functions and would replace the production voice systems. the license was registered under an individual email account.

we recently upgraded the system to V18 and registered a license using corporate email address, with a different FQDN. when I try to replace the license key in 3cx web console, i got an error "This key is a free key and cannot be used to replace your current license key. Only commercial license keys can be used to replace existing keys."

can you help explain what needs to be done here please? I didnt want to make guesses and found out I guessed wrongly. thanks.

It's simple. The new key is a free key just like the previous one, so it doesn't want to replace it. That's how the licensing works.

Since you want to change the FQDN, replacing the key would not be the way to go, anyway.

You will need to do a full backup without license/FQDN, shutdown the VM, release the FQDN in the old account, spin up a new one, restore the backup at setup and enter the new key after that.

Otherwise, you can buy a Pro or Enterprise and get more features and keep your FQDN.

hi there, not yet. I temporarily transfered the previous license from individual's email account to the corporate email account. We will need a PRO license for the other features required and will buy that with a proper FQDN and replace the current one. thanks for checking.
