I'm experimenting with codecs as our company is all working from home now, using either the 3cx mobile or windows app, and call quality is poor (like an old fashioned long distance call). The default priority goes: GSM-FR, G729, G711u-law, G711 A-law, G722. i want to try G722 first and see how it works.

I was told to reprovision extensions after making the change. is this just a matter of shutting down and re-opening the app (mobile or windows), or do i need to completely install it or something else?

Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a good codec that balances quality and performance? Our PBX is hosted in rackspace VA (through bvoip) and all users are within 25 ms latency, on solid cable/fiber connections.

Surprised you are asking here versus talking to bvoip support. G.722 is generally a waste of time for two reasons:

- If the SIP trunk does not support G.722 then the PBX will have to transcode which will degrade call quality.
- In almost all cases the handoff from the trunking provider to the PSTN is going to be G.711

So the moral of the story is put G.711 at top and call it a day.

For re-provisioning you should see this on the phone provisioning tab for the 3CX App:

There's also this button under phones if the app is currently registered:

And then in the mobile app itself:

figured i'd get an outside opinion... thanks, i pushed 711 u-law to the top and will test. using siptrunk for PSTN...
