I have an active instance on a windows server. i want to move to 3cx cloud and have a free account setup there. My trunks our IP based, so I don't expect any calls to work to/from the restored site. Can I restore a copy of my live instance on the 3cd cloud site (not expecting to make/receive calls) in order to work with v18 and the cloud based version. I want to be able to see the new features, try the integrations and start setting up a new registration trunk that i'll port over to eventually. I'll just re-register a phone or two to the new site for internal calling and testing. Are there any issues with 2 servers running the same data that was restored from a backup at the same time?

Hi @justin401,

Can you provide us with the version you have on your Windows server?

If you're running on the latest service pack then you can deploy your instance as well to the cloud using a backup file from your old instance. However, if 2 instances are running with the same subscription, then you will have problems with your FQDN flipping all the time between 2 different IP addresses.

I would highly recommend powering off the old instance, deploy the new one to the cloud, have it tested and if you do not want to use it anymore, you can always delete it and power on your old instance.

Hope that helps you!

Thanks for the quick response! Is there a way I could ensure they are NOT in the same subscription so i dnt have the FQDN issue you mention? I can't have my old instance down while I'm testing and updating the configuration on the new instance.

Hi,

Yes, you can get a new trial subscription for free and deploy a blank instance (without using a backup file during deployment). After your instance has been deployed, you can restore from backup using FTP, SFTP or Google Storage.

Please make sure:
1) That your backup file downloaded from your old instance does not include the license key and FQDN.
2) The digit length of your new instance must be the same as the one defined in your backup file/old instance.
