Solved Scheduled backup failed due to System.IO.IOException

3CX Version: Standard Annual 18.0.237
Server OS: Raspberry Pi 4
Self-hosted/on-premises

My scheduled backups are set to run daily at 01:00, but have failed the last three days with the same error each time:

System.IO.IOException: 3221225701

at _3cxFilesystemImplementations.Samba.Smb2FileSystem.CreateFile(String filename)

I'm not finding much when search for that error number. Has anyone else run into this? The server being backed up to is running macOS Catalina (10.15.7).

Can you access the smb share on the Mac, from another machine using the same username and password

Do you get the same error message when you do a manual backup ?

Have the IP address of the Mac changed ?

Yes, I can login to the the share from another machine without issue.
I'll have to wait until after business hours to try a manual backup, but I'll post the results once I know.
No, the IP address of the Mac hasn't changed (it's using a static IP).

Sorry if you've already done this but make absolutely sure you're using the same exact smb user you used on the 3CX PBX and also, try creating and deleting a file in that location, are you allowed to do so with that user? Also, do you happen to see a 3CX backup with .tmp at the end of the filename in that location?

I guess this a problem with macOS. I could login and saw all the files there, but couldn't add or delete any files. I think I might have to look into installing samba. macOS never could do SMB correctly.

I can't say with certainty that this is a MacOS issue but it does sound awfully like a permissions issue so I'd doublecheck those are ok. In any case, glad to see you at least found the cause of the backups failing.

Well, the permissions looked all right but were just not being honored by smbd. Restarting that host fixed the issue (for now).

Strange, hopefully it doesn't happen again!
