Setting up Grandstream HT802 for Fax with a cloud instance

Hello All,

Does anyone happen to know where the instructions for this are? I recall seeing it on here that someone got it working but I can't find it now for the life of me.

Been searching for the last hour and gave up and decided to ask.

The PBX is hosted in the cloud and the HT802 is local so obviously the directions at https://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/grandstream-ht-fxs/ are not what I'm looking for.

As I recall, they set it up as a regular extensions with pass-through for the fax. Maybe someone knows where it is?

Setup "should" be with VPN to stay within the realms of 3CX support, with that being said I have done this via remote STUN/SIP but I would suggest VPN as the best option for ease of setup.

The guide you posted is for Local LAN, this includes VPN as it is simply an extension of the local LAN.

Why is VPN NOT an option?

You can still configure it in STUN, but it won't be supported by 3CX in case of issues and to be honest, faxing using STUN or even SBC isn't perfect. You WILL get issues. To do that, simply download the config generated by 3CX FXS/DECT page and change the SIP Server to your FQDN before uploading the config to the HT8xx.

In your case, I would recommend going for a online Fax service, probably from your SIP provider directly.

Be warned that this setup:

• May require a lot of fiddling with speed and other FAX related settings.
• Adds more conversions and thus more delay to FAX transmission = more chance of FAX failure.
• Is un-supported by 3CX.
• Is not secure.

VPN is an option on most hosted system providers that I have used (by software firewall) I am surprised to hear you say it is not an option for you.

I did that but I get "Block WAN Request is On" when it tries to provision/connect.

If you are using a FAX extension, this is expected. That's why a VPN is required normally. I am not aware of a workaround except use a normal extension.

Actually if you want reliable faxing you don't want SIP faxing. This configuration is just asking for trouble.
