Significant audio delay identical setup VM vs Raspberry

Last week I started migrating some (bare-metal) machines to a fresh Windows Server 2019 installation with HyperV. The idea behind it is to clean up the network from loose devices hanging around, gauge performance, and yes, shear entertainment. I found an issue I can't seem to find the answer for.

Anyway this is in my home lab and there is not a lot going on (please read: have 50+ people calling at the same time, being it a QoS thing)

Orignal 3CX install

• Raspberry Pi 3b+, powered by a PoE hat running v16.05
• Patton FXO 4112
• Snom M25 + M300 handset
• Few softphones

Other then having a slightly slower (responsive) admin console, it is absolutely rock solid. Internal and external calling (including 3CX Bridges) are super smooth. I am aware that this is not advised for a production environment, but me and my partner are the only people using it. It's been running since v16 was in beta and I've had zero issues.

Migration

• I made a backup of the config (incl. license key)
• Deployed a fresh install op 3CX (debian) on HyperV, (Gen1).
• Imported the backup file in the setup
• I swapped the IP leases so once I rebooted the instance, everything would work as the original setup.

Once I completed the restore, everything came online, and worked as advertised. Everything looked nice and snappy. Nice!

Below de server specs:

• Xeon 2620v4 @ 2.1Ghz with 32GB running on SSD with 10GBe NIC
• Windows 2019 Standard with HyperV
• 3CX on Hyper-V 2 Cores 4GB ram, 10GB
• Hyper V Client sits at 1% CPU and 40% Memory usage
• No other VMs active.
• Server completely idle
• No copying or data transfer active.

I tried to make a few calls and notice "issues" I couldn't explain.

Problem(s)

• Calls from handset and softphone have significant delays. Both internal and external.
• Calls from my Snom M25 M300 have significant degraded sound quality. Almost like an analog phone (The irony)

Troubleshooting

• I tried to reboot the server
• Reboot the VM
• Restart services
• Reboot M300
• Reboot Patton 4112

The actions had no impact on the quality or performance

I saved the state of the VM, shut it down, swapped the original IP lease to the Raspberry Pi, plugged in to PoE (powered it on), waited for 3 minutes for the system to boot, 3CX to load and the phone to (re)-provision. Guess what; System works flawlessly. No poor quality on phone and no delays?!

What I know:

• Network is identical
• Settings are idential
• Raspberry Pi is offline when I test it with the HyperV instance (so no IP or license conflict)
• HyperV is offline when I start the Pi
• Devices are on the same switch with minimal / no load
• Everything is hardwired

Any ideas?

Hi, 1 quick check to make is VMQ, if its a broadcom network adapter this needs to be off

Set-NetAdapterVmq -Name "NIC 1" -Enabled $False
Set-NetAdapterVmq -Name "NIC 2" -Enabled $False
You can confirm that VMQ is disabled on the correct network adapters by using the Get-NetAdapterVmq Windows PowerShell command.

Hi, 1 quick check to make is VMQ, if its a broadcom network adapter this needs to be off

Set-NetAdapterVmq -Name "NIC 1" -Enabled $False
Set-NetAdapterVmq -Name "NIC 2" -Enabled $False
You can confirm that VMQ is disabled on the correct network adapters by using the Get-NetAdapterVmq Windows PowerShell command.

Mmm. It seems to work! Can't believe this was the problem.

Yeah I read that but since I am using a Mellanox 10G NIC one could argue that's it not the same as a Broadcom NetXtreme 1Gb NIC

Ahh I only read the first post of your setup. Maybe 3CX can update to include that card. @JohnS_3CX can you ask your team to update that document?
