SMB backups to Azure Files

Has anyone been able to setup backups to target an Azure File location? I have an Azure Storage Account, for file setup with it tied to utilize AD for Keb authentication. I can login fine with the backup domain service account I use and write files while on a windows machine. It uses SMB over port 445 and is accessed via UNC path. It requires SMB 2.1 or 3.0 for encrypted communication. The 3CX marketplace image aligns with potentially supporting the proper SMB versions although I am not sure how 3CX is handling compared to the actual OS.

My results yield "Invalid Credentials" when attempting to connect. I tried disabling "Secure transfer required" on the storage account, which should fallback if it's in the same Azure Region, so it should be doing this anyway but disabled for good measure. I tried every type of user formatting to login with the same result "Invalid Credentials". Since it's SMB via platform as a service the logging is very lacking to really troubleshoot the server-side end.

Has anyone been successful at implementing Azure Files that is domain joined as a backup target?

I have not attempted this but we use Azure Recovery Services Vault to do image-based snapshots and file-level recovery with defined retention.

Hi there, Azure Storage (or blob storage as they call it) has never been tested from our side and is not something we advise upon. Smb is more catered towards access via local network rather than remotely. I would suggest using google buckets, or ftp for your remote backups location, or local windows machine on same network as the 3cx system if you want to use SMB.

I just configured mine to work.
My 3cx is a Linux machine. I created an private end point in azure to handle SMB for our VPN. I also have a service endpoint on the virtual network. Under StorageAccount>Networking I added the public IP address of the 3CX machine and that allowed the backups to write to the Storage Account.
In the Azure storage account click on the ... and select connect. Select the macOS and note the user name, and password. I left the domain blank. I used the private IP of the VM example.
smb://172.30.5.6/3cx/backup/ in the Location on 3CX.

On the other hand, you can use a direct way to do these backups like using GUI tools that supports SMB and can transfer directly to Azure files quickly and easily, take a look at Gs Richcopy 360 and Sharegate, both work on windows, and you can make a search to to be sure if both work on Linux or not!
