Good day,

I'm after a solution that will allow me to receive SMS messages to a number ideally one of our DDI's and have that SMS message delivered to an email account. I'm seeing a lot of stuff online about sending SMS's via messaging in 3CX and also sending SMS services, but don't seem to find anything that fits my requirements. Just wanted to touch base on the 3CX forums to see if anyone had done this before had any pointers.

The reason for this is we want to setup MFA for a bunch of our client admin accounts and we want to use SMS as the MFA method and have that SMS delivered to an email address ultimately a teams channel. That engineers can use to authenticate into admin account with. I'm reluctant to sign up to random SMS services online as if they disappear and we lose the number we lose access and also i'm not 100% sure how secure they are and that is a concern.

Hi!

There is currently no SMS to Email function in 3CX, however what a lot of users do (myself included) is signup to a support SMS Provider that is supported by 3CX, get a DID from them and use that in your services that require a mobile phone for MFA.
Then you can have the 3CX app registered against the 3CX System and have all incoming SMS forwarded to this extension and users can via them through the 3CX Apps on their mobile phones.

If you have multiple users needing to get the code, you can have multiple extensions on 3CX, one for each user, then place them all in a Queue, then point the SMS DID to forward to the Queue, then all users in there will get it.

This is exactly what I need to do. My question is, let's assume I have a single SMS number into 3CX. If I have 3 different extensions signed into a queue and an SMS get's delivered how do they receive that? Do they all see the message pop up in their 3CX client app or is it only assigned to one of them in the queue? Never implemented SMS before!

Basically I have a bunch of volunteers either on PC's with the 3CX client or using mobile phones at home (no sim) to list items on ebay and they will all need to receive the SMS code (Yes, ebay are inexplicably ONLY implementing SMS and no other MFA option). I don't want people signing in and out of queues to receive as they are not tech savvy I just want it delivered no matter what (auto join queue when logged in).

For anyone reading this with regards ebay and MFA for listing an item you'll also need to forward any calls to the SMS number as it's the primary contact method for ebay employees to contact your organisation.

It will appear in their WebClient/Desktop App to all of them. The general concept for SMS to Queues is that one of the agents will "take" of incoming chat, but in this instance just instruct them to do nothing, or if they do, after "taking" it, read the code, then make sure they flag it as "Dealt with", otherwise new messages from the same number will not go to the whole Queue, instead they will go only to the agent that "took" the initial message.

You don't need 3CX for SMS to email. Any SIP provider that offers SMS should offer this feature. We do.

In addition, SMSala inboxes for users associated with these email accounts are updated when you send a text message from your mobile device. SMSala will send your reply to the mobile device that sent the email text message.
