SNOM PA1 and Valcom powered speakers

Hello,

Does anyone have experience connecting powered (24v) speakers using a SNOM PA1? We have Valcom (24v) speakers, but I would think any powered speakers would be setup similarly.

We have several buildings we need to make announcements to (shelter-in-place, etc...), so our thought is to put a SNOM PA1 in each building on the network, then connect it to up to our existing Valcom speakers (up to 8 per building). The speakers require 24v, which the PA1 does not put out. Can we safely connect a 24v power supply to one pair on our punch panel and the SNOM PA1 to the other pair? Or perhaps there is another device to install (ie, PA1 speaker pair out to device x , then out to the Valcom speakers)?

We've connected on SNOM PA1 to our 3cx system and provisioned it without a problem. The question is getting from the PA1 out to the powered speakers.

Any help is appreciated.

I would recommend using a small amp between the PA1 and the speakers. This way you convert PA1's power to 24v.

Fredrick, thank you. Have you (or anyone) done this? We have 24v power supplies that powered the speakers with our phone old system (Toshiba Strategy VOIP system), I just want to be sure that voltage doesn't go into the SNOM (will open a case with SNOM about it as well).

I suggest you use the LineOut of the PA1 with an external amp capable of 24v.

If you plug the power supply with the PA1 on thr circuit, you might fry it.

I have never done this exact setup. However, I have installed (once) a PA1 with a regular amp plugged into the line-out using a 1/8-to-RCA cable, then plugged the speakers into the amp itself with regular speakers. Any cheap amp capable of 350W or more will power 8-20 small speakers easily for paging.

So unless Snom is familiar with these specific speakers they aren't going to able to tell you that. But from a common sense standpoint the whole point of having physically separate wires is so signal or current doesn't mix. If you are delivering 4 wires to the speaker (+/- from your power supply and L/R from the PA1 it should be fine unless something is shorted in the speaker.
