If the IP Phones, and softphones have a DHCP IP address lease that can change over time - does this become an issue when the IP Address changes. Should IP Phones have static addresses

With 3CX it is not necessary for ip phones to have static addresses.

While it is true that a phone, or ATA does not have to have a static IP, it is helpful, if the device has a GUI that allows you to log-in and make changes. SIP devices (phones and ATA's) don't require a static IP because they re-register with 3CX within 30 minutes, and keep doing this. In this manner, the server always knows what devices are available and where to reach them. This is different in the case of a gateway, such as the SPA-3102, which you are going to test. The IP (and port) of the gateway is datafilled in the 3CX trunk settings so the device must have a static IP.
