Hey All,

we've had a few issues recently where services have stopped but the notification email hasn't come through.

so i've been looking to install solarwinds RMM on some of our linux hosts, however when i looked to do this i get a notification its going to remove 3cxpbx, which is obviously bad.

has anyone successfully done this ?

Thanks

First point, you should keep 3CX servers dedicated to 3CX only, no other software.

If this is solarwinds SNMP monitoring software give it it's own server if possible.

I have monitored 3CX with this software before however be aware that some phone brands do not support SNMP for security reasons. Snom still do I believe.

Hi @ccs1

As Ed says above, we do not recommend you install any 3rd party software whatsoever on your PBX server, just keep it dedicated to 3CX.

We do not know how it will interact with the instance, the installed packages, or the network setup. People have faced issues in the past with monitoring software causing their system to become unstable due to a number of reasons that were not anticipated by the PBX administrators.

the service is to allow us to see things like CPU, RAM, Disk Space and the status of services, in a central location, which intern will alert to our PSA if theres something up.

we need to do something as the Email Notifications dont always work and don't alert for some issues (services not starting on reboot has been a big one since 16 SP2 or so)

There are several Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) platforms used by many 3CX partners. We currently use ConnectWise Automate, and 3CX happens to have CRM support for ConnectWise Manage - it would be awesome to leverage these tools to monitor and alert on issues that might be detected.

I'll post this in the Ideas forum. 3CX Certification for RMM platforms. Worth a shot.

You may want to check your environment as I don't think we have any 3CX systems that have services that don't start on reboot. Granted, I don't make a habit of rebooting them regularly but I certainly don't think it's that widespread. But if you are looking for something lightweight, you can try something like monit.

Stopped services has indeed been rare, but we have seen it happen. For example, if the SIP Server stops calls don't flow anymore. If everything else is working an email notice does get sent, but this does not scale well when you are managing dozens or hundreds of instances.

I posted an idea in the ideas forum. Feel free to comment and vote it up - or down.
