SSL Certificates - Will the Software Update Without a Valid SSL

We have one site left on V14, all phones are provisioned via the local IP with no phones outside the network and no SIP trunks, it has a custom FQDN but I suspect the SSL certificate has never been renewed.
The IT department are pretty hopeless and although I have requested a new SSL Certificate in anticipation of the upgrade to V15.6 but I am not confident in their ability to provide one without a lot of hassle going on past history.
Will the system upgrade to V15.6 without a valid SSL Certificate as if I do the upgrade on a Friday evening it could possibly be Monday when the IT department return to resolve a duff SSL Certicate.

The phones can continue to work internally using the internal IP. You have two choices. Either get a ssl certificate so you can continue to use the custom fqdn with 15.5 or when upgrading choose a 3CX FQDN instead. When prompted for local FQDN just choose the local IP address. The phones will continue as they were. Since you have no external phones the current custom FQDN is mostly useless anyway so changing to a 3CX one with v15.5 won't matter.

You will need to provide an SSL certificate during installation, however the installer will not check if the certificate is valid or not. I should note however that if you do not provide a valid pair (crt and key) the nginx might not start.

Yes that should do the job. Obviously i would recommend getting a valid SSL certificate to be utilise the full potential of the PBX and be secure at the same time.
