SSO and Boosted Performance in V18 Alpha 2!

Hi all, I am new here, so sorry if this info is already out there- I searched but did not see anything... We just deployed the Debian 9 version of 3cx in Azure and jsut saw that this debian 10 version is about to be released. My questions is: will I be able to do an in-place upgrade to our current system, or will I have to do a fresh install?

In short though, yes. You will always of course also have the option to take a backup, do the clean V18 installation and restore your backup.

When upgrading to V18, it will upgrade the OS to Debian 10 itself. DO NOT RUN IT YOURSELF, or you will probably break everything lol

Fresh installs are usually on Windows when they do big changes (like new services or new Windows version requirements.)

What I mean is: do not update to Debian 10 yourself. Let the 3CX Updater do it when it is ready to do so. Same thing applies to manually running "apt update && apt upgrade".

Ok, so what you are saying is that I should just set the update settings to the day and time I want it to upgrade and then let it automatically update itself?

Yup. That's the supported way and the only way that won't broke stuff.

I remember seeing recently someone that had updated Postgresql manually (the 3CX DB engine), and it broke his whole system because of a changed SQL function or something like that.

If you've been doing manual updates, be aware manual updates don't install Debian security updates.

That kinda sad there isn't a option to do the debian security update routine independent to the 3CX update.
The V18 comes with the addition of many security features but there is still not stock automatic debian security updates. It's the root of the 3CX.

We check these updates before we push them out but they do not wait for a 3CX update. The non security updates are only done at 3CX updates or major releases if the software in question is relevant to 3CX.

In no event should you attempt to do your own updating of the system. You will certainly get problems and you will be on your own. If you want to go your own way its best to choose an open source pbx system. But be prepared to kiss your weekends goodbye

Thank for the reply, I thought that the checking and update was done only when there is a update of 3CX. It's clear now.
