I have a hosted server so I can't use multicast. Issue is that I have 11 phones in my page group (I have already cut it down). My system is currently licensed for 16 Sim. calls. If someone pages at a moment when there are already enough calls in the system that the page surpasses the 16 it hangs the entire system. The paging call goes through but does not disconnect. Therefore it ties up all 11 phone as if they are in a call. They can still call out, but all calls going into the phone register as "busy". I either have to reboot the system or go into the active calls and disconnect the call that generate the original page. I have looked for anyway around this or to stop it? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Currently running 15.5 on a Debian9 hosted server. Standard 16 license (planning to upgrade to pro when version 16 is complete)
All phones are Yealink phones.

So you absolutely can do multicast, you just need something local to do it. Regarding the phones can you confirm a couple things:

  • Firewall check passes
  • Phones configured using stock templates and 3CX firmware
  • How the phones are provisioned

Hello @Wdewitt

Please note that paging only consumes one sim call so i do not think that is the issue you are facing. Check what @cobaltit suggested and see if anything is wrong there.

Thank you for your responses. I am glad to know that paging is only 1 call. All phones are a variation of T41S, T46S and T48S. My firewall checks passed before, but after your suggestion I checked it again and found some errors. I have fixed those and my firewall works properly now. My phones are all provisioned directly through 3cx with standard templates. I am hoping the firewall issue may have resolved it. I will update this post after a few days of usage to see if there is any further issues.

Thanks again!

Is 3CX hosted or local and are the phones provisioned via STUN (Direct SIP) or SBC?

3cx is hosted, all phones are provisioned with SBC.
I also question if I have something setup wrong on paging, because when I page it does register 11 calls active. I am not using multicast because in the reading I have been doing it says multicast won't work unless the server is local. I just created a paging group that includes the 11 phones. I cut that down from 15.
Thank you

SIP paging does take 1 SC per extension. Multicast only takes one. You can do multicast page with hosted but you need a local SIP endpoint like a Snom PA-1 or Cyberdata Paging adapter to do that.

@Wdewitt is reporting is that if the page causes 3CX to exceed the SC limit (page group members +
active calls on the system at the time of the page) then it causes the system to hang as described.

@YiannisH_3CX Perhaps you can test this

I have a Snom PA-1 in the system. I have yet to find good instructions for setting up a mulitcast using this. I obviously need some education in the mutlicast setup. Back to reading!

Paging only counts as 1 sim call. The number of calls in user tab counts active call legs, not simultaneous calls. The number can exceed the number of SIM calls you have as you can see from the screenshots below. The caller + the 5 members of the paging group equal 6 call legs. As you can see the call is allowed on a 4SC licence.

Oh I thought I had read somewhere that SIP paging took one SC per page member. I thought one of the benefits of multicast (besides performance) was reducing the SC consumption. Good to know.

I am having the same problems.

So does SIP paging takes one SC per page member or it just counts as 1 SC and the rest as Active calls??

For Examples if we have a 8 SC 3CX License on a hosted AWS LightSail and we created a paging group with 10 extensions in it. When we do the paging, the number of calls in use shows 11/8. Does that mean we only used 1 SC of the 8 and 10 active calls or we exceeded our 8 SC license limit?

can someone from 3CX help put here please?

?? It's literally posted 2 posts above.
