Hello,

I have read previous threads and posts on Reddit.

My questions are:
1- Why was Telnyx removed from the SIP Trunk provider list? Is it because their service is not compatible with 3CX anymore?
2- If so, should I be concerned that current installs using Telnyx might fail soon or in the near future?
3- Because Telnyx was one of the first providers to support SMS, we ported over all the DIDs from our customers over them, should I be worried that SMS won't be supported in the near future for Telnyx?
4- Should I stop porting over new DIDs to Telnyx? (we just signed big contacts and are halfway porting a bunch of DIDs).

Most of you are aware that porting DIDs out of Telnyx is not free. I would hate to be taken hostage by 2 companies because they do not get along. Makes me feel insecure to think that we might have to go through big costly changes like this again in the future.

Thank you for helping me make a better-educated decision.

Hi,

Telnyx template will continue to work as before and as long as Telnyx does their own testing and updating of the template if and when needed, you should not have any issues at all. We are just no longer promoting it for business reasons. And you can just use the generic template for Telnyx for future installs if you really want to.

In regards to SMS we are working to support more providers and make it much easier to setup. Existing telnyx SMS accounts will continue to work as before.

Thank you, @Nick Galea. I appreciate the guidance and reassurances.

I'm also very happy that SMS will continue to work with Telnyx for the foreseeable future. I understand that noting is forever and I don't have all the information here, but all I really care about is the stability of the system and being able to offer the best possible service to my end-users; a win-win for 3CX and us.

I am also happy to be able to onboard more and more customers. Actually, enough to finally have enough licenses sales to become a real 3CX Bronze Partner within the next few months.

Thank you

Well we look forward to you becoming a bronze partner!

And thank you for your understanding. We understand the Telnyx situation is akward for everybody, including our customers and partners. Unfortunately some business decisions need to be taken despite all of this. It was not a decision we took lightly.

The communication from 3cx on this change has not been great. The only reason I know about it is because it was in a Reddit post and then someone posted on the forum. No official communication/blog post/anything leading up to this. We have a majority of our SIP services on Telnyx with a decent amount using the SMS features. I'm afraid to port to all of our customers to a new provider, because who knows if that provider with make 3cx mad and they drop support. This whole situation seems very unprofessional, from the removal of Telnyx support itself to the communication to all the 3cx partners. If I missed the official communication, please correct me. There has been enough petty drama in the IT/MSP vendor space lately and now this. I hope things get better.

While I agree that the communication is not great, you need to look at the big picture. 3CX won't tell you why other than business reasons, but if they did, what exactly would that change? The only thing that this changes is the supported status. For those of you that this matters for, you'll have to look at changing providers. But as most people posting about this are partners, it really shouldn't worry you that much. If it does, you are in the wrong business. Telnyx seems like a good provider and it is in their best interest to do everything in their power to make sure they still work with 3CX. This simply means that going forward, Telnyx will be responsible for maintaining a guide with instructions on how to setup the Generic SIP trunk template, or will provide a template to import or otherwise provide support.. Yes, you may get a red exclamation point but it will still work the same because it's still the same Telnyx. As 3CX has stated current implementations will continue to work. Just make sure you turn off auto updates because it sounds like the next update is going to re-work the SMS integration to allow for more providers and that may break their existing implementation. I'm sure they (Telnyx) will provide guidance on that front.

To be clear, I’m not looking for a reason, nor did I ask for a reason, I just want communication in general. Any other vendor I work with would give me at least a few week lead time if they were dropping official support for something. I also understand that generic will work fine, SIP service is not the issue here, the SMS integration is. The communication in the forums on how that will work has been vague and from the CTOs post here, they specifically say “Existing Telnyx SMS will continue to work”, which implies I won’t be able to add Telnyx SMS to new instances. If a further update is going to allow a Generic SMS provider, then that should be communicated. So until I have communication, I am kind of in a holding pattern adding clients to Telnyx, and since Telnyx is great, I want to hold off jumping to a new provider until 3cx makes it clear how things will work in the future.

Reading between the lines, Telnyx did or said something to make 3CX upset. It wouldn't be the first time, unfortunately.
I mean the CEO of Telnyx posted on these forums (and other places like Reddit) exactly what happened, so not much between the line reading will be needed. I understand 3CX considers the information provided by them to be confidential and as such removed it from view. It basically boils down to 3CX and Telnyx not being able to reach an agreement to continue their business relationship after several months.

I see many here complaining about lack of notice. I agree that more notice would be better but... personally I am considering this to be the notice. Nothing broke the day it got pulled and it will likely continue to work for the next few months if not longer. So I now know/have the notice that Telnyx may stop working with 3CX in the near future. It's not ideal but at least I can start planning around this possibility.

Thanks for the headsup @SweetAction @cobaltit

We understand its unfortunate that we had to end the cooperation with Telnyx. Its ugly and inconvenient. We we're completely taken by surprise as well by Telnyx actions and words and the situation unfolded to this extent over a couple of days. Prior to that we have waited for months for Telnyx to rectify certain situations. We are still shocked ourselves quite frankly.

To be clear - All existing templates and systems continue to work as they did before. There will be no change ever from 3CX side to make our system not work with Telnyx. We just no longer actively promote Telnyx. That said, we recommend partners look for alternatives and no longer port new business to Telnyx.

There is much more to the story but we dont want to go public with it and engage in mud slinging on Reddit or other places. We don't want to escalate this further. Yes there are commercial issues at play (we are a business after all) but not only that. If it could have been avoided we would have done so. I would appreciate it if our partners would trust 3CX judgement on this.

You can still deploy telnyx on dedicated systems in your own cloud or on premise. You can still deploy SMS for the foreseeable future. At some point they will be removed, but not before we have added more alternatives and given notice. Again we fully understand its akward.

We are working on a list of preferred US Voip Providers and more news will be coming soon on that. Give us a few days.... Also our SMS API will be made public and we expect to announce many more providers to be SMS enabled soon. Its going to be much easier to configure too. This is going to be in the interest of customers, partners and 3CX.

We are constantly working to provide better deals for customers AND PARTNERS and would appreciate some loyalty and trust in the process.

I just want to chime in saying that I understand 3CX position in this. Perfectly.

Yes, it's sad. But if, as Nick said, they won't remove Telnyx from SMS until we get other alternatives, this at least gives us time.

If nothing changed, then I don't think we would be having this conversation :). Telnyx template is not available on the hosted platform, so that change should be communicated somehow. Thank you, Nick, for finally providing the information I think everyone was looking for. No one really cared why it was being removed, as partners, we just need to be prepared for the future with the products we provide to clients. We are selling more 3cx setups every month and if I need to make changes with SIP providers that we have also invested time and money into, it's nice to know that as soon as possible so that we do not have to double port clients if SMS does completely stop working at some point. If I am reading this correctly, it sounds like with the SMS API being made public, this should allow any SIP provider to hook into the 3cx SMS, and if that is the case, that is the answer I have been looking for this whole time.

I'm excited for the future of 3cx, our clients love it and I hope to see it continue to grow. A simple email communication to partners about the removal of the template and assurance that Telnyx SIP and SMS will continue to work but just not be officially supported is all that was needed and, in this forum post we finally got it! Thanks everyone.

@Bryanh Thank you for the heads up

After a quick internal discussion and at the suggestion of some partners, we have decided to revert the Telnyx template temporarily. This gives us time to ready the alternative provider list and then give additional time for partners to choose and partner up with a new provider. We will announce the list soon. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Thanks. Ever since Vitelity/Voyant/Onvoy/Inteliquent/Sinch/Whatever they are now stopped allowing new sign ups years ago Telnyx has been our go-to, so please keep them a supported and/or recommended trunk provider. Appreciated!

I am afraid Telnyx is gone for good and they will slowly be removed in future builds. Current installs will continue to work with Telnyx but we no longer recommend it for new installs. If you want to keep using Telnyx exclusively you must choose another PBX.

Alternatively, consider another provider. We are readying strategic partnerships with a number of major players that will also give commission to partners automatically. The list is not final yet but you can explore partnerships with DIDlogic, Skyetel, Voxtelesys and CloudCo..... Furthermore SMS will be auto configured at trunk setup in future builds with these providers.

And you're referring specifically to a 3CX Hosted instance, correct?

Nick,

I am seeing conflicting information on this.... When will the SMS/MMS functionality stop working with telnyx? We have just converted several cusotmers over to this.

As have we, but none are not 3CX Hosted. Is 3CX on-prem still A-O-K with Telnyx?

@alwtech no it will continue working although in update 4 or 5 there might be SMS configuration changes. But you will have ample time to move in case it does and when it does we will have many more choices

@dougkinzinger Sorry about this. Yes for now its OK but i suggest you look at alternatives when you have a moment

Here is my concern. You say “might”. Venders such as myself have vested trust, time, and money in to companies such as 3CX and Telnyx. What is there to say that this will not happen to the next carrier that we move to. It will take $1,000’s to move all of our numbers to another carrier along with lots of man hours to complete this process.
