If we use a non-standard template for a phone, there is no support available for that extension. I get that.

However, templates should allow me to make minor changes like adding a company logo screensaver, suppress a missed call flashing light in a conf room phone or something similar without voiding my support options. Does it not make sense to break templates down and allow customers to make small amendments like the above noted items without turning my phone page red? Have a section of allowable customizations that don't interfere with call flow?

For the record, I can make the above changes to a standard template and expect full support, but a power cycle will clear those settings. All the custom template does is put them back in place after a reboot. Thought it was worth a discussion.

I’m big on using custom templates where necessary. However the non-support of custom templates is really a non-issue.

When you have trouble simply revert to the current stock template and see if the issue persists. If it does reach out to support for help with the issue. Once resolved update your custom template as required and reapply to phone and move along.

There was a previous feature request that was super popular for template overrides that apply to the phone after the 3CX template to do your customizations. Then if you have trouble you remove your override and check/obtain support. 3CX instead came out with a more elegant solution to have per phone selection options available for the recommended phones which works well for smaller companies.

But is a real PITA for bigger enterprises.

Absolutely. Not going to select those one by one for anything more than perhaps 25 phones.

If 3CX made the provision configuration options multi-select configurable it would go a long way. They do have extension copy now but I think it's just for creating a new extension not for copying settings to an existing extension.

I have at times configured provisioning options through the extension import csv file function but it's not as convenient as custom template which also allows the flexibility for you to configure options not available through 3CX management console.

In our case, dumping custom configs on seventy-four hard phones (and that is just one of our offices) so 3CX support will take our call is not a trivial exercise.

This situation equates to having a car dealer refuse to service your engine under warranty because you hung pine scented air freshener off the rear-view mirror.

Add a car freshener - just don't put on custom shocks...

Why would you have to revert all phones from custom to 3cx template? just move one or two phones.
