TEST UPGRADE SUGGESTION?

Preface - 3CX noob admin -(10 Days) I am upgrading from 15.5 (Win2008) to 16 (Win2016) want to complete a test upgrade before taking current system offline. What is teh best way to accomplish this? As well as proper way to move the license after the test is successful.

Spin up the instance you want and use a new free key with a backup you made from the other system.

Back up without License Key and FQDN and use that restore with a free key? Then I can move the production license and FQDN after I'm comfortable? Thanks in advance!

Will I be able to change the FQDN when I move the permanent license to the new server? I installed the new server with a test FQDN to use with the Free license to test the Move/Upgrade.

I'd recommend scraping the install of Windows completely.

So basically:
1. Install Windows and 3CX with a backup without FQDN and license.
2. Run your tests.
3. Scrap that machine and reinstall Windows and 3CX but with a full backup this time.
4. Remember to turn off the other machine to prevent DNS issues.

I dont understand why 3cx is still installed on windows. Seriously debian is more stable, no licence needed, need a lighter machine. You don't even need to be a linux pro to use it, its very simple.

@53ovived frederick gave you a good description of what to do. Just be aware of a couple of things:

• The current server must be 15.5SP6 BEFORE you take the final backup.
• The new system will have to be Windows Server 2016 (Standard, Datacenter) as a minimum, but since you are doing the work, you might as well consider 2019 instead for longevity reasons. Or consider using our Debian ISO which is free.
• If you host the test system behind the same public IP as the current system, you cannot forward the same ports to both systems so might come across some issues here.
• If you register your trunk on both systems simultaneously, you may end up losing calls as both systems compete for registration. Your provider might not even allow 2 simultaneous registrations, just something to keep in mind
• If you are running a windows server 2008 currently, you might want to brush up on the hardware recommendations since you likely have an old machine https://www.3cx.com/docs/recommended-hardware-specifications-for-3cx/

How would I confirm the SP version ? the Product Details page shows 15.5.15502 for version number.
