@53ovived frederick gave you a good description of what to do. Just be aware of a couple of things:
- The current server must be 15.5SP6 BEFORE you take the final backup.
- The new system will have to be Windows Server 2016 (Standard, Datacenter) as a minimum, but since you are doing the work, you might as well consider 2019 instead for longevity reasons. Or consider using our Debian ISO which is free.
- If you host the test system behind the same public IP as the current system, you cannot forward the same ports to both systems so might come across some issues here.
- If you register your trunk on both systems simultaneously, you may end up losing calls as both systems compete for registration. Your provider might not even allow 2 simultaneous registrations, just something to keep in mind
- If you are running a windows server 2008 currently, you might want to brush up on the hardware recommendations since you likely have an old machine https://www.3cx.com/docs/recommended-hardware-specifications-for-3cx/
