Well after 7+ years running V14 (yes you did read that correctly I am still running V14) I have reached the point where I really should upgrade my hardware to something a little more modern as the Server I use is even older.
My problem is that V14 has been virtually bullet proof and has worked flawlessly in all the time I have used it. It still does today, but with a server is 9+ years old and I believe I am beginning to get to the point of playing Russian roulette with reliability.
My initial plan was build a new server (which I have done) and simply re-installed V14, then use a backup file to restore my settings and then just carry on.
However, whilst was able to reinstall V14, I quickly found I could not activate my license key and then I discovered I cannot download the service packs.... Without any of this, my trunk came up, my extensions registered, including softphones and Physically phones, In fact I go so far, I was beginning to wonder if I needed the service packs...... Then I discovered that I could not access webapi's and things started to unravel, I think because I need those services packs.
It is therefore with gritted teeth, that I am pondering an upgrade to V18. Now I am not looking to use my backup config files as V14 probably won't be supported, I have no problem with this and I am happy to re-configure manually....
My current plan is to download the free version of 3CX, install, manually configure and once I am happy I can achieve the same levels of dependability, contact a re-seller and buy the appropriate license.
Now I did talk to a local re-seller who was extremely helpful (who I will use when it comes to buying a license) but I tend to be self-reliant and like to know I can do things and sort problems out myself and I have built a few add on over the years including a real time reader of CDR records using the built in CDR server using TCP/IP.
OK, that is the introduction over, so now to how I hope this forum may be able to help me.
So my first couple of questions.
- Because I run a live installation whatever I do during the build process, cannot impact this production system. It is therefore my plan to configure 3CX V18 on the new Server, I can give this new server a static IP address, but longer term, the new server will replace the old server and I will need to switch the IP address to the old Servers IP address so everything that connects today also does not need to be re-configured. However, when I first started (with3CX V9) I seem to remember changing the IP address of a configured server gave problems. So does anyone know if I switch the internal IP address after configuration if it will give me problems? And by definition will I need to remove the installation, switch the IP address reinstall and then manually configure again?
- Ignorance is a wonderful thing in that I don't know what I don't know. However, I suspect (or is that hope) some members of this forum have also been using 3cx also since V9. Therefore, are there some "gotca's" that it would be useful to know before I stumble into them and tear my hair out?
