Hello,

We have a usage issue with transfers: When an outside caller calls an extension directly (not through reception) and the callee doesn't answer the call is transfered to the receptionist as it should. The issue is that the receptionist doesn't know that the caller called the extension directly and was transferred and spends the first minute or so figuring out that 1) the caller thinks that the receptionist is the callee and 2) who the caller is trying to reach. The receptionist sees the external caller's ID but is there a way to indicate that the call was transferred from an extension so she can answer with something like "The person you have called did not answer, may I help you?" instead of the standard greeting? Thanks in advance.

With a call transfer the callee will get either the originators number, or in some cases, the extension number. In either case it is not going to tell the receptionist that the call came from an unanswered extension. What you may try, if the calls use a DID rule, is to add the extension number , as the name, in the rule (or something like Ext 2204). Then if the receptionist receives a call with an extension number, as a part of the caller ID name, they would know it has come through a DID rule. Of course the extension itself will also see this information on any incoming calls.
