We're enrolling 3CX too and I'm wondering if the following can be done.

Now in the receptionist choice menu if I know the extension number I can call it directly, is there a way to disable this to be done directly, but instead require like a pin for an extension number so each extension can have a different pin and if a member off staff is expecting a call directly to give the caller the pin to his/her extension.

It's a PBX. It is not meant to be difficult to call between extensions.

it's a PBX, hence my question.. it's not for calling between extensions, that is normal that you can call between extensions.

I meant outside calls.

One can obtain a DID number for each extension that needs one, and give that out. Or maybe if the caller's number is known, a caller ID rule can be set up to route all calls from that number to Sarah. It sounds like you're looking for something temporary, though...? I don't think that's possible. Maybe press "9" to get to a digital receptionist that they know "7" gets them to Sarah? Then don't use "7" for a while.

@jimmy1987

You may achieve what you have described with a "DTMF Input" IVR. Check here: https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/ivr-digital-receptionist/ for more details. The specific IVR type does not have the direct dial function and the DTMF's can be configured specifically for each extension which matches your description for the pin.
