I renewd my license but I cannot activate it, 3cx says Unable to reach 3CX License Activation Server. Confirm that your Primary DNS Server is able to resolve activation.3cx.com.
I can ping activate.3cx.com but the system is looking for activation.3cx.com that is NXDOMAIN.

  • 3CX Version, Professional 16.0.5.619
  • Server OS, Windows 10 Pro
  • Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? On-premises

There is a solution?
Many thanks.

The solution is simple: take a full backup and reinstall. You are still on v16 and it's no longer supported and the old activation servers were shut down months ago.

You'll need to upgrade to v18, and the easiest is to backup and reinstall.

Try installing it on a new Windows but after restoring the Backu this error comes up.

Error occurred when calling license server

Unable to connect with 3CX License server. Check your network and try again.

Below you will find Nslookup to activate.3cx.com

nslookup activate.3cx.com
Server: XXXXXXX
Address: XXXXXXX

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: activate.3cx.com
Addresses: 2606:4700::6812:e36
2606:4700::6812:f36
104.18.15.54
104.18.14.54

Any suggestion?

First make sure that there is nothing blocking outbound traffic to activate.3cx.com on tcp port 443 and there is no proxy or any dpi security services enabled on your network firewall. Then Change your primary dns setting on the servers network settings to 8.8.8.8, once done open CMD and issue ipconfig /flushdns. Navigate to license settings within the management console and press edit, ensure all required fields are populated with the details required and press ok.

It seems that the only thing blocking it was the proxy server. Just remove the server(machine) from proxy and it worked. No need to change DNS but Upgrading it was a must. Even thought removing from proxy it would still go to activation.3cx.com instead of active.3cx.com.

Thanks @Charles_3CX and @ConceptsWeb
