Unable to upgrade to V20

Hi, I am a little confused, I setup 3cx years ago and it has worked flawlessly. I have an instance v18 running on debian hosted on aws. The instance is unable to upgrade debian and V20 due to the cpu on aws only running one core. I think this is because it is such an old setup. If I create a new machine on my aws account it seems to run with 2 cpu's. My theory is that if I install v18 on the new machine and upload a backup of my current 3cx setup then I might be able to upgrade to V20 before the July deadline. Does this make sense? or is there a better way? Aws costs me approximately $5/mth. Thanks Jeremy

You could do a cutover migration.

Install v20 on the new VM and restore your backup.

or, go to your customer.3cx.com portal and switch to hosted and move to 3CX hosted.

Thanks for your reply, Do you know the cost of 3cx hosting? or do tou have a link? I suspect that Aws will be the cheaper option. Sorry about all the questions. When v20 says that it requires 2 cores does that relate to 2 cpu's or is a core something else?

3CX hosting will cost more but you're paying for them to maintain the system, basically take responsibility.

2 cores refers to cores of the CPU.

Yes but in AWS you need to simply change the instance type. It takes 5min.

Yes changing the instance type is all you have to do..

No offense but you might benefit from using Hosted since clearly you're not used to manage servers and such. Specially with AWS being quite complex.

This is true concepts, I would like to think that I perform better in my chosen proffession, but I feel drawn to this challenge and since I set the sytem up years ago I feel that ill be able to get it done (or at least am happy to try). My biggest hurdle is underatanding the terminology, once I have an understanding of what is required I can try and get it done. Although I am much slower and inefficient than proffessional it workers I feel that tasks like this one in a way keep me a little current with the it world. AWS EC2 or Lightsail ?

EC2 // Stop the VM
Go to ACTION
Instance parameter
Change instance Type
Select the new one

Star the instance : check the public IP if not Eleatic ip will change, go to https:XX.XX.XX.XX the new ip in list EC2
connect to 3CX
Change the IP by te new one

vm is on lightsail, they have a vm available that meets the v20 3cx specs, i just need to work out how to tranfer data accross or do a new install. I suspect a new install would be a better option maybe even on a different platform other than aws.

The amount of time you've spent on here discussing it you could have backed up, spun up the new VM and upgraded to v20 with the restore. As long as you've got your backup, go for it.
