Hello

I have a 3CX system configured for a bunch of extensions in an office 3 external lines feed 3 extension groups.
At the end of their week, a memeber of staff wants to divert each set of lines to a unique external number.

What would be the easiest, least impactful way of making this happen? With the 3CX iOS client?
The numbers that would need to take the divert would change week to week?

Any thoughts gratefully recieved!! :)

Hi Pete

Without management console access, one way to change diverts is to have some dummy extensions that act as diverters. They receive the call, and then they send it to their destination (extension group or external number)

The person in charge can have those accounts setup on their iOS client or Windows app and can easily change the destination from there. Then they switch to the next account and do the same, and so on.

Note: Ensure that you have your outbound rules set up in such a way that system extensions can make calls otherwise the external divert will fail (likely with error logs showing no matching rule and destination cannot be built). Let me know if you need help with that.

Ah, ok my only query is that I have each number getting pushed to a call group - each call group has 2 extensions, so are you saying i would add a third dummy extension (which could be configured on the iOS app) - then when i need the divert, if the dummy has the divert - it will send the call irrespective of the other extensions in the group?

Let me clarify a bit, this is the call flow you would need to set up :

  1. Call coming from outside -> Goes to Trunk DID
  2. Trunk DID Inbound Rules -> Sends call to dummy extension that is not in any group nor is registered. Just a dummy extension.
  3. Dummy Extension -> Sends call to respective ring group. Same thing done for dummy Extension 2 (for the other DID)
Here is a sample setup of your dummy extension, you can use this as a starting point. Notice how I set everything up to reach my ring group 501 in this example:
