Hello,

I have had external forwarding for an Emergency number for a while now but every time it forwards the number it comes up as "Unknown" on the caller ID. What I am trying to accomplish is when the user selects the Emergency option and it dials automatically the two phone numbers to show the trunk number I have set up for outbound. I have Nexmo for my outbound calls

The current way I have this set up is the following and please tell me if i did this wrong or there is a better way to do this

  • I created two extensions labeled Emergency with the two different names labeled next to it(ex: John Emergency) and added their phone number in the Mobile Number section.
  • I created a Ring Group "Emergency" and added the two extensions as the Group Members
  • When someone calls and presses the option for the Emergency Line - the call then forwards to both their mobile numbers - but this is where the issue arises as they both show Unknown on the caller ID.
I also have a different setup I am trying to put together.

  • I created a extension for a person outside our company and put their mobile number in.
  • I created a Ring Group for this and added the extension as the Group Member.
  • When someone calls our office and after 20 seconds of it ringing and nobody picks up it dials out to the mobile number on the extension and if that person doesnt pick up it goes to our Voicemail.
    • But the issue when the call forwards to that mobile number it also shows "Unknown" on the caller Id

Any help in the right direction would be helpful. I do think that this may have to do something with the Outbound Paraments in the SIP Trunk settings for Nexmo.

Thank you in advance!

Was this working at some point and the then just stopped? Does your provider allow caller ID to be changed?
If so, then the issue is probably one of the caller ID settings used in the outbound trunk settings.
However, every provider has different requirements, so what works for one may not work for yours. Unless someone else , also using Nexmo, can provide settings that work, I would be me very cautious about making changes without confirming that they do not have any unwanted effects on other call scenarios. Some changes can block all outgoing calls, tread carefully.
