Hello,

Yesterday I tried to update my 3CX to V18. The update failed but I don't know why. In the log I have seen this error :

Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/3CXEventNotificationManager.service → /lib/systemd/system/3CXEventNotificationManager.service.
Successfully updated
W: --force-yes is deprecated, use one of the options starting with --allow instead.

Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/3CXHotelModule01.service → /lib/systemd/system/3CXHotelModule01.service.

::FAIL::

I know that i can re-install my system with fresh install. But if there is an auto update I prefer used it. it's faster and easier than reinstall all the system.

My 3CX was installed by a certified partner with the 3CX ISO and without any modification on it.

Thank you in advance for your help. I've attached the full log to this post.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer.

I already check this thread. But it didn't help me. I have never install appstream. That strange we both had the same issue with 3CX ISO and you don't know why appstream is installed.

Are you sur that appstream is useless for 3CX ? Can I remove this app without side effect ?

Thank you

Hi there,

At no point did I say or imply that you installed it. I just pointed out what the issue with your upgrade was.

When a system is self-hosted, we don't know (as you understand) if it was installed using the 3CX ISO nor if a user made any changes to it nor anything about the overall setup. Based on this, the support and guidance we can give is limited. That is the main difference between having a system self-hosted vs hosted. On self hosted you are responsible for the administration of your system and handle these things yourself. On hosted systems we take care of things because we know everything related to the instances we host.

Now regarding your issue, the same information given to the other thread apply to your case.

3CX does not need the appstream app for anything however we cannot guarantee that nothing else will be affected on your system should it be uninstalled. The issue by the way is not with that software per se but with its output (it is reporting an error, potentially with a resource). To find exactly what that software reports as an error you need to further look into its logs, investigate and potentially fix it.

It will probably take much less time to spin up a new V18 instance and restore from backup rather than attempting to fix the existing issue or exchange messages in this thread :)

Ok thanks for your reply.
I agree with you. For me that not worth to exchange with you to try to correct this error. But for you it can be interessting to try to understand why this error happen. For the moment, I think we are not a lot to do the update but in the few month, you will maybe have a lot of curious people that will try to understand why this error happens ;).

Anyway I understand your point of view. I will try to uninstall appstream then update just by curiosity. If it doesn't work, i will do a fresh install.

Thank you for your help.

Have a nice day.

Have a great day and I am sure you will soon be running V18 ;)
