Upgrade to v20 with an on-premise installation

I currently have a 3CX FREE standard installation on-premises on a VM (3CX v18 Linux Debian). I'm sorry to post it here, but I cannot post messages in the "on premise" category.
A few weeks ago I upgraded by elevating the VP according to the specs of v20 (2 cores, 2Gb RAM) but ended up with a non-functioning server. That is, the server was functioning properly but the dashboard displayed a server error and the provisioning of the phones didn’t work.

I now read on some posts that the 3CX Free is being replaced by 3CX SOHO and that the on-premises installation is not supported any longer. Noting of the messages I received from 3CX mentioned anything about this change. Just upgrade was the message.

Because apparently I need to allocate some time for this upgrade and finetune some settings, or create a hosted SOHO installation from scratch, I wonder

1. how long 3CX will support the v18 on my on-premise installation?
2. If I manage to succeed in the upgrade to V20, how long 3CX will support or allow an on-premise installation in the FREE version (or SOHO as it’s called now)?
3. If a hosted installation is inevitable, can I export/import my current settings of the on-premises server to the hosted server?
4. The new SOHO version includes 3 desk phones. Does this limitation relate only to the phones that are provisioned from the server? I use some older VOIP devices that are provisioned by the phone using a TFTP server, which are configured as softphones in the 3CX server
5. I currently have 12 users conjured (actually, 12 entry points from different devices, not actual simultaneous users). Does the migration to SOHO mean that I have a 10-user limitation?

I hope that someone already figured out this. I was hoping to enjoy a flawless working system for years, but my experience in upgrading and reading the new specs tells me otherwise.

I would expect just changing the VM to 2 CPUs and adding RAM wouldn't break anything? Or did that work and the upgrade to v20 failed?

3CX has a 3CX-hosted FREE/SMB offering (nee StartUP) that is essentially a tenant on a shared server. Hosted by them, and one needs to use an approved SIP provider. There are various limitations for it and I would research carefully as you wouldn't have the same level of configuration or access to it. There is no migration path between Free/SMB and a Pro/Ent license.

So for the forseeable future, legacy Free licenses will be extended. A couple times a year they post an update on the legacy Free licenses to their blog so I'd watch that for news.

Thx for the reply. Changing the VM did not cause problems, the server was functoning correctly after this. But once I installed V20 the problems bagan.
