Upgrading from 15.5 to v18 on a new server with no down time, is that possible?

We are ready to decommission our Server 2012 v15.5 server for the new Windows 2019 v18 server. The sever is setup and windows updated on the PBX network. The software has been downloaded, a copy our latest backup has been moved over to the new server, firewall ports has been setup. I've traded in our license for the annual but is still say 15.5 with the upgrade option available. The question I have once I click upgrade and request the v18 license, will my current v15.5 server stop working? Or will I get a v18 license and a grace period to cut over?

So your subject and your question are different, at least in my interpretation.

But I'm confused about your question. So did you only request the trade-in or you requested and approved it? What does it say in your customer portal? There is no v18 key, the key doesn't change. The key itself is upgraded to v18. If you already accepted the trade in and your portal shows it as a v18 annual instead of a perpetual, then you should do the upgrade ASAP before v15 goes poof. If you only requested but haven't approved the trade-in, then approve it the day you are ready to do the switch.

Yesterday I traded in and approved my perpetual v15.5 license for the annual. Today the v.15.5 Trade-in option is gone and now I have the option to upgrade my v.15.5 license, which is what I'm ready to do on a new server. I want to know when I choose the upgrade option will my current v15.5 server go down until I've installed and restored the new v18 license on the new server? Can a FQDN be on two different servers? Is it better to just get a new FQDN for the new server?

I've completed the webinars and working on my certification but we are in the market for a new partner

Ok. I think you are talking about the upgrade button in the customer portal. That is just to buy/ugprade your license. You weren't seeing it before because as a v15 license you couldn't make any changes. With a v18 license you can. For the actual machine swap/upgrade you are already set. Just make a full backup with everything checked before you are ready to switch, shut down the old box, change IP on the new box to match and then install/restore.
